BELGRADE SPS Presidency member Novica Toncev says he has proposed the party's main board to hold a session, "to discuss a number of questions that need answers." According to him, the initiative has been supported by "30 to 40" municipal boards. SPS official seeks meeting of party's main board The Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) is part of the ruling coalition in Serbia, and is led by the country's prime minister, Ivica Dacic. Toncev told Tanjug on Wednesday that the "direct" reason that prompted him to propose a meeting of the party's leadership were the results of local elections in Kosjeric, and also the treatment that Dacic received recently during the burial of several members of the Karadjordjevic family at Oplenac, when he was met with a salvo of boos and whistles from the crowd. According to Toncev, it is "illogical" that a coalition made up of four parties - that included the SPS, PUPS, URS, and JS - should win only three seats in the municipal assembly in Kosjeric. "I cannot and will not just look at that," he said, and added that he believed the party should "consider the work of all its personnel on all levels." "We will seek an analysis of the prime minister's work, although his results are visible when it comes to Kosovo and the EU, but we will also ask that our ministers and directors of public companies submit reports about their work," this high ranking SPS official stressed. "One of the topics of the session should also be the attacks in the media on SPS officials," Toncev said, and noted that the Socialists "should consider whether they were being called out with or without reason." He stated that the session should also discuss the functioning of the party's various bodies, the main board and the presidency, and noted that the former did not meet this year at all: "Since the start of the year two presidency meetings have been held, which means that the party's institutions are not functioning, and I would like to know why." Toncev stressed that the Socialists "wish to give the support to PM Ivica Daci in solving the problems related to Kosovo and EU integrations." One of the topics of the main board session should also be the current political and economic situation, he said, and added that the country's parliament was currently adopting a set of tax laws "that affect all municipalities in Serbia." Toncev explained the procedure for calling the meeting to say that the party's president should schedule a session, but that failing that, 30 percent of leaders of municipal boards or 30 percent of members of the main board can also do it. "Since the (party) president did not call it, perhaps because he is busy, we sent an email to all municipal boards asking them if they agreed to schedule a session, and by this morning I received 30 to 40 positive replies," Toncev concluded.
