WASHINGTON If the U.S. wants Belgrade and Pristina to reach an agreement it needs to “pressure” Kosovo PM Hashim Thaci into signing it, analyst Obrad Kesic says. He told Tanjug that Pristina was now the biggest obstacle to reaching an agreement. Pristina is hindering agreement, analyst says “The Belgrade authorities have shown enthusiasm for a deal while Pristina is asking more than the EU now wants to give them in the talks with Belgrade,” Kesic noted. According to him, the key issue now was whether the U.S. will pressure Thaci because it has the biggest influence. “A big question is whether this will happen because Thaci does not have a strong position in Pristina, a unity government with (Ramush) Haradinaj has not been formed and he has a narrow space to make a deal than Belgrade politicians who have a wider consensus,” he explained. He added that the U.S. and the EU had so far been pressuring Belgrade much more and that they now needed to pressure Pristina if they wanted an agreement to be reached. “I am not sure they have a political will to do that,” Kesic noted.
