A map of Serbia that does not include Kosovo, published on the European Union portal, is "a technical error", a source from the European Commission has said. Tanjug reported from Brussels that "work was being done to correct that error". Kosovo's ethnic Albanians more than four years ago unilaterally declared independence, but Serbia rejects that proclamation. Five out of 27 EU member states have also not recognized Kosovo. "Our position has not changed - it is still status-neutral when it comes to Kosovo," the EC official was quoted as saying. According to this, the map was uploaded by "the technical service in charge of maintaining the page, and was there for months before it was spotted". The same website lists Serbia as "other countries", instead of as candidate for membership. The Tanjug source explained that the EC website already contained correct information, while the EU's main web portal was "somewhat more difficult to update due to technical reasons". The issue came to the attention of the public in Serbia on Monday, when officials of the opposition Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) held a news conference, asserting that while Serbia was flying EU flags in the wake of being given candidate status, the organization was redrawing our borders. The news conference also saw a printed page from the EU website featuring the controversial map. The map has in the meantime been taken off the website, Tanjug reported. Tanjug
