Democratic Party (DS) Political Council Chairman Dragoljub Micunovic says the president could dissolve parliament if political parties used blackmails. He told B92 that he did not believe that parliamentary elections would not be called before the beginning of 2012. Parliamentary elections “will be held in 2012” Micunovic explained that the DS “is not even thinking” about calling the early elections and that they would be held next year. The DS official, who is also a Serbian parliament’s International Relations Committee chairman, said that he did not expect that certain countries’ requests regarding Kosovo would be explicitly mentioned in the European Commission (EC) opinion on Serbia’s EU candidacy bid. “I think that these new conditions will be mentioned in some general form, as good neighborly relations or relations in the region. I think that President Boris Tadic has done a lot in that field,” Micunovic pointed out. When asked whether Serbia would be able to fulfill the additional conditions in the next two months, before the Council of Ministers makes its final decision on Serbia’s EU candidacy bid, he said that the atmosphere of the talks needed to remain positive. The DS official said that the questionnaire and the EC’s assessment of how many things from the questionnaire Serbia had actually implemented were the most important for Serbia’s bid.
