Elections will be held in the spring of 2012, says Human and Minority rights, Public Administration and Local Self-Government Minister Milan Markovic. He added that the ruling coalition would decide whether to hold parliamentary and local elections at the same time. According to him, holding the elections separately would contribute to better quality and higher responsibility of people elected to the local assemblies. “It wouldn’t be an exclusively party match than, it would be a fight between leaders’ quality and their programs. On the other hand, that means higher costs,” Markovic stressed. He said that the elections “will be held in accordance with the valid laws on republic and local elections” and added that he “advocates for a date that will allow citizens a more direct insight and bigger influence on the quality of local authorities’ work”. According to him, holding the elections separately would contribute to better quality and higher responsibility of people elected to the local assemblies.
