Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac said that Serbian Army soldiers could begin participating in peacekeeping mission in Lebanon and Cyrpus soon. “We have the capacities and knowledge to participate in these peacekeeping missions with our friends from Spain, Italy, Hungary and Slovakia,” Sutanovac said. Army could participate in two missions “Along with the four missions we are currently present in—Ivory Coast, Liberia, Congo and Chad—there are two more possible destinations, Lebanon and Cyprus, in which peacekeeping missions have been active for a long time,” he said. “If we want to take care of Serbia’s security, we must move outside the borders of our country, because it is clear that no one in the world can take care of the security of their countries only within their own borders,” Sutanovac said. “Starting on Tuesday, we will be at the European Parliament, where we will report to the parliamentary officials on what reform laws and reform actions we have taken in the Serbian army and Defense Ministry and what we plan on doing further,” Sutanovac said, adding that he would also find out whether it is possible to participate in any other peacekeeping mission of the European Union.
