Belgrade Mayor Dragan Djilas said that he will cooperate with the new SNS-led coalition in power in the Belgrade municipality of Zemun. He also said that he expects the government to be formed soon in the other wildcard Belgrade municipality of Vozdovac. Belgrade Mayor vows cooperation with Zemun coalition Djilas told daily Vecernje Novosti that he will work with all municipal presidents in Belgrade equally regardless of what political parties they are from. “When someone becomes the president of a Belgrade municipality, he is no longer a party representative, but a representative of all the people living in that municipality. We will do everything we promised to do in the municipality of Zemun. The local level is not a topic of state politics,” Djilas said. Speaking of the negotiations for the formation of the local government in Vozdovac, he said that municipal councils are engaged in talks. “I believe that the government that was in Vozdovac earlier will continue to work there,” the mayor said. He said that the economic crisis will not stop the planned projects in Belgrade. “We will realize the main projects. For example, the construction of the bridge from Ada Ciganlija to the corresponding roads, the construction and reconstruction of more than 30 nurseries and preschools by April, we will buy 30 trams, 80 trolley cars, and we will continue building schools,” Djilas said. He said that the technical documentation for the construction of the so-called “Chinese bridge” from Zemun to Borca is being prepared, adding that talks on the look and price of the bridge should be completed by the end of the year. He said that the construction of the bridge is expected to begin in the second half of next year. Speaking of plans to build a metro in Belgrade, Djilas said that a final decision will be made on that plan in the fall.
