Exiting Railways chief in sweet deal

Milenko Sarancevic’s last salary as the director of Zeleznice Srbije (Serbian Railways) will be no less than RSD 640,000. This is according to an article published today in the Belgrade daily Blic. Exiting Railways chief in sweet deal The monthly paycheck worth some EUR 7,500 is not only in stark contrast to the average wage in the country of just under EUR 400, but also to Sarancic’s own previous salaries at the helm of this public enterprise. The recently sacked director will receive bonuses to his usual RSD 120,000 salary, and to the RSD 93,000 which he received monthly for attending the Railways’ managing board sessions. New Serbia (NS)-affiliated Sarancic has also started the procedure to buy off the state-owned apartment he is using, located in downtown Belgrade. His name has been tied to numerous affairs during his time at the Serbian Railways, including buying train locomotives from Sweden without a tender, and in excess of the funds allocated to the purchase.
