The Serbian Radical Party (SRS) on Friday unanimously nominated SPS Deputy President Tomislav Nikolic as its candidate. Another certain presidential candidate is the Liberal-Democratic Party leader, Cedomir Jovanovic, whose nomination was confirmed by his party's leadership two weeks ago. New Serbia leader Velimir Ilic had previously announced he would run, but after the elections were called, Ilic stated that the choice of the ballot date had been unfortunate and that his party's organs would decide whether to nominate a candidate after December 19 when the UN Security Council is set to debate the Kosovo situation. United Serbia President Dragan Markovic, aka Palma, told Tanjug that he too would make his final decision to run in the presidential elections after December 19 . The Hungarian national minority parties have announced they will have a joint candidate on Jan 20 - Ishtvan Pastor. The Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) has also said it will take part in the presidential race, despite criticizing the scheduled date in view of the unresolved Kosovo situation. The SPS candidate will be Party Vice-President Milutin Mrkonjic, provided that the outcome of the UN Security Council session is not unfavorable for Serbia, Tanjug has learned. The leader of the Strength of Serbia Movement, Bogoljub Karic, has said that he will also run for president, provided he obtains a written confirmation that he is a resident of Serbia, although he has spent the past two years abroad due to an probe into his company's operations. The Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) has yet to say whether it will have its own candidate or if it will back the candidate of its main coalition partner (DS) after the ballot was scheduled in the face of the DSS’s disagreement. The DSS says it will announce its decision after December 19. Some of the contenders (Tanjug)
