Putin: European peace based on international law

“Our position is clear - peace cannot be built in Europe without taking into account the fundamental principles of international law, including the Final Act of the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe held in Helsinki in 1975,” he said.

Putin underscored that Russia and Serbia were actively developing bilateral relations "based on solid foundations of cultural, historic and spiritual ties".

Newly-appointed Serbian Ambassador to Moscow, Stanimir Vukčević, was among the diplomats presenting credentials at the Kremlin ceremony today.

Tadić: Kosovo, Serbia’s EU integration – unrelated issues

Serbian President Boris Tadić said in an interview with Russian media Thursday that the issue of Serbia’s accession to the EU bears no connection with the Kosovo status settlement.

"Until now, the EU has not made an ultimatum to Serbia's leadership that we will be unable to join the EU with Kosovo within our borders. These are two absolutely different issues - the talks on territory's status and Serbia's admission to the EU," he told Russia's Vesti-24 TV channel.

"Serbia does not accept Kosovo's independence in any form. The president and government have their own constitutional powers, and even if we wanted to accept the territory's independence, we could not do so," Tadić said.
