For some of you Russia bashers on this post learn your history. WWII in Europe was won on USSR blood (mostly Russian, Ukrainian and Byelorussian) and American canned meat Spork and Spik. USA and USSR divided Europe into spheres of influence after the War. USA used the Marshall plan to economically occupy Western Europe. USA attempted to use the same plan to occupy USSR but Stalin refused it. It was at this point that USA created the Cold War. This was done to maintain production of military goods so that USA economy would not collapse as it did for several years after WWI when American military factories shut down. USA economy boomed in the mid 20’s fueled by deregulations and corruption of its economy leading to its economic collapse. Roosevelt used socialism to save USA from experiencing Russian style revolution. Winds of war in Europe threat from (Fascist Germany, Italy, Spain and other countries that had fascist parties (Hungary, Finland, Poland, France, Romania and Austria) lead to USA re-establishing its Military Industrial Complex (MIC) which ended the depression.

When WWII ended the Americans created the Cold War in order to retain production of military goods. IF USA did not create the Cold War they would have had to invent one. America’s Military Industrial Complex which comprises 30 percent of its economy, plus the IM Complexes of its NATO partners was fueled by the Cold War. USA spent close to 35 % of its GDP on military production while USSR spent 40 percent of their GDP. USA GDP was twice the size of that of USSR. Beside USA all the NATO countries spent some 20 percent of their GDP on their MIC. These MI Complexes were aimed at destroying the USSR. In the end they and Afghanistan bankrupted USSR.

When the Warsaw Pact ended NATO needed and US’s MIC needed a reason to continue. Peacekeeping was invented after USA embarked on regime change and destruction of the remaining socialist countries that had large portion of their economy government controlled. Welcome to NATO’s destabilization and bombing of Yugoslavia. NATO the pyromaniac started the Yugoslav fire with the help of former fascist elements in Croatia, Bosnia and yours truly Kosovo. In comes the fireman NATO to put the fire out that they started in the first place. Now that we have put out the fire in Yugoslavia we need more fires to keep building those missiles. Welcome to the Middle East. Here they encounter opposition, Osama Bin Laden’s boys and September 11th. Now they create FEAR of TERRORISM the same kind of fear that they created with the Russians. FEAR of TERRORISM becomes the new fuel for the US’s MIC and NATO. Nether USA or USSR followed international law during the Cold War Any treaty USSR signed with USA during that period they observed including nuclear arms treaties while USA according to former President Jimmy Carter broke every one. For Russia the Cold War is over while in America the Cold War propaganda was so ingrained that they continue to use it every time that Russia reminds them that this is no longer a bi-polar world but a world where multilateralism and international law must function if respect between nations is to exist.

JHam,
The majority of the demonstrators were taking part peacefully. There was a small number of people who did set houses ablaze in an act of revenge. You need to remember that a lot of these kids have gone through a lot of trauma and mental abuse during the Milosevic regime, and not to mention what these people have seen during the 3 months of war.
Do I think they did the right thing? No, I don’t. Do I understand why they did it? Of course I do.
So, to get the facts straight. We did not execute truck loads of Serb villagers; we did not bury them in mass graves and then moved them around with bulldozers. We did not load bodies of executed men, women and children in meat vans and drown them in the river.
I am quite sure that the Albanians would not seek revenge if You (and your countrymen) had your facts straight right in the beginning.

The Russians have put it to the US - what is it to be sovereignity or self determination? The US can't have it both ways in this multi-polar world and there are many in the world who are relieved to see the end of American imperialism. The US imperialism of the last 15 years has brought nothing but a wasted opportunity of global peace and instead war to the world! The Geo-politics have moved on sooooo much since 1999 and if in 1999 Serbia retained it's sovereignity you can bet your last dollar it will continue in 2008 & onwards!

The Kremlin is really a majestic place with great architecture.Russia really is the most beautiful country in all of Europe(not to even mention the gorgeous Russian women) and with its current economic policies will eventually be the richest country in Europe. The chessmaster Vladimir Putin must be respected by all European statesmen as the best guarantor of long term prosperity and stability on the European continent. He is above and beyond any other European politician in ability and intelligence.Bush has been a terrible representative for my country and hopefully in a few months he will go back to his Crawford ranch and spend the rest of his life horseback riding and praying for the souls of all the American boys that have needlessly died during his 8 year disastrous reign.

I don't think under any circumstances would the Serbs give up their close relationship with the Russian peoples. Would the US turn their back on Canada, Britain, Australia? Heck no! All speak some form of English and were spawn from the same seed. So it is with Serbs & Russians. Why does the EU/US think they can pull apart thousands of years of historical, cultural, religious ties by offering a one way relationship with the West? On top of that, the West (which is obviously anti-Serb/Russian) is not even trying to hide that fact! They say to the Serbs "come join us, forget Russia" and in return will we tare your lands apart, support your enemies, occupy your territory, allow & support ethnic cleansing against you, in other words dominate/subjugate and dictate to your people. If the West had dropped the issue of Kosovo independence, Serbia most likely would have at least leaned West, but without giving up their Eastern ties. However because the West is now pressing the K issue, Serbia leans East. The West is pushing them East, Russia has stepped up to the plate when the Serbs needed them the most, and Russia always has. God bless Russia & Putin the Great!

We really have entered a surreal world when non-democratic Russia is the defender of sovereignty, and uber-democratic America is using its foreign policy to strongarm a state to push its own agenda. We also are living in a surreal world when US foreign officials, who seem to have gotten their diplomatic credentials from an online correspondence school, make comments they think is productive when in fact it pushes the world further away from them. And I know I personally am living in a surreal world when I finally come to realize that the Europeans, not the Americans, may actually come up with a better solution to this Kosovo mess than Washington could ever hope to. Now I'm more than happy to see a solution in which Kosovo ends up independent, but I want to see a deal in which a true compromise is met within the boundaries of Kosovo, and that means significant concessions to Serb groups beyond the obligatory protections embodied in the Ahtisaari Plan. That Serbia has to make a Faustian deal with Moscow to secure what should be inalienable rights for its communities truly means the United States has lost its credible role as an objective mediator in this ordeal.

Putin is getting better and better every day. I think he'll manage to get EU together. I mean in the in the face of all this EU will be forced to act as union and Putin will get credit for forcing EU to get its act together and achieve something they should have done long, long, long time ago.

Oh, and Tadics claims that the EU has not made an ultimatum to Serbia's leadership that Serbia will be unable to join the EU with Kosovo within its borders are simply ridiculous. I don't know where Mr. Tadic was or what he was doing just few weeks ago and how could he miss this when he himself met with Jose Manuel Barroso who told him this among others "But when we think about strategic relations between Serbia and Europe [then], of course, if this issue is not solved, it will create a lot of problems. This is obvious. We will not be able to achieve what is, I think, our strategic goal, [which] is to have, one day, Serbia as a full member of the European Union."

And also Bernard Kouchner told the same to Vuk Jeremic. Kouchner warned Serbia that its goal of one day joining the European Union would be in doubt before "Kosovo is resolved peacefully." According to Kouchner "It is not possible to enter the EU with an ethnic conflict,"

Perhaps, Tadic does not follow the latest news or perhaps there is no communications between various branches of the Serb government or perhaps he doesn't consider Kosovo a problem or perhaps he thinks of Serbia without Albanians on Kosovo, anyway, Mr. Tadic, Mr. Kostunica, Mr. Jeremic and other officials, you all are politicians and you should know better than everyone else what the above statements mean.

If peace is to be based on international law then Serbia has no right to claim anything serbia didn't and doesn"t and will not foanylaws but their own. If serbia followed laws there would have not been any genocide in bosnia or kosova. They tried in slovenia it lasted two days Serbia as a whole lost the backing of the whole civilized world when it violated international laws in the 90's

«...peace cannot be built in Europe without taking into account the fundamental principles of international law...»

I doubt strongly if the Serbian Gov. and Military knows anything about 'international laws'. We all know what happened in the 90s, especially during the war in Bosnia or, should as say, as our friend Stojan, the 'genocide' in Bosnia and the attempted genocide in Kosovo. Serbia has lost all rights to ever rule on Kosovo. The people want to be free, to be secure, and they independence is the only way, no matter the integrity of Serbia; the integrity of the person passes first.

Stojan,
The Serbs can tell what they want. One thing is sure: because of the the terible crimes they committed against their own 2 million K-Albanian citizens in 1999 they forfaited any right to Kosovo. Because of that Kosovo is a unique case. Nothing will change that. Kosovo is already de-facto independent. There will never be Serbian tanks again in Kosovo pointing their guns against the houses of peacfull K-Albanians and terrorizing them on a daily basis.

Mr. Putin knows the international law
Mr. Bush IS the international law

There are several serious disputes between Russia and the West currently going on. Kosova is just a small token for them to trade with. In the end the Russians will give up supporting Serbs in return for something much more important to them.

Please, stop lying and stop misleading your own people.

International law???
Well very interesting point he made. What about the International law during the occupation of Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia etc.
Was there a International law to be respected or not?
For those that support Lada life style ask any Bulgarian what Russians mean when they mention International law or any law.
I sincerely hope that Russia will be the one that respects the International laws and it start form it doorsteps.

Luciano,

Maybe you as a Serbian-American visited Russia but I doubt very much you know Western Europe or a country like France. Otherwise you would not make yourself as ridiculous.
Russia will be the richest country in Europe? when in 150 years? Today 90% of her population lives bellow poverty level. I don't speak of those few thousands, those maffioso-type "neauveaux riches", who did not got their billions the legal way.
Since you seem to be so unhappy in our country why don't you move to that Russian paradise? Maybe you know well that you would live there like those poor Russians and that would not suite you. Anyway you should make up your mind.

zoran "all speak some form of English and were spawn from the same seed. So it is with Serbs & Russians."
so Serbs spawned from Russians? And they claim their holy land is Kosovo? Or are the Russians spawned from Serbia? Wich in turn means Kosovars are the birth Of Russia.

speaking of majestic beauty of Kremlin, I agree but you have to thank Mr. Pacolli who got the contract to restore is orginial beauty after the brake up of USSR. By the way this mogul Albanian bussines man milked russian govermant for over a billion dollars to restore Kremlin ang give am a face lift. As for russian women, you are right becasue I had my share in Brighton Beacg, Brooklyn and they are easy going women.
Cvele maybe can tell me something about attrocities of 2004, 2006/2007 that I have not been able to see them and i have been working in Kosovo/a during these times. All I have seen March riots of 2004 and I can tell you more Albaninas were killed than serbs. I think the total number of people killed was about 18-22, and 70% were Albaninas. Now I don't know what he is talking about.

once again I ask those boys who were boasting about the "one and only global superpower" ...where is that powerful man hiding?

Mr. Putin knows international law on his side.
Mr.Bush oviously does not.

I will continue to be amused about the albanian fawning in regard to the US-american "commitment".

I think if we look at it today, the genocide has in fact been perpertrated against Krajina and Kosovo Serbs. Whoever started it, the results are there for everyone to see. Serbia is by far the most multiethnic country of the former Yugoslavia.

Well very interesting point he made. What about the International law during the occupation of Hungary, (Olf, 27. July 2007 17:17)

What do you mean by the "Occupation" in Hungary? Kadar was the Hungarian Communist leader who called for Russia's help, Russia did not "Occupy" Hungary, or Czech Republic for that matter-it seems to me the US is trying to occupy Afghanistan and Iraq with no success.

Attrocities occured after 1244? Do u even know when that resolution was passed? The attrocities that have occured after 1244 were ALL commited by shqiptars in Kosovo. ie organized riots in 2004 and 2006/7. Ethic cleansing of Serbs from the Southern areas of Kosovo. The prevention of the return of refugees. I mean the list goes on. All historical, legal and legitimate claim is with the Serbs.

James,

I wonder who it is that should in your own words "stop lying and stop misleading" ?

From what I recall you have done nothing but mislead yourself;

"Recent deal to let Russia join the WTO is the message many Serbs failed to recognize. That Russia has been brought on board the Kosova Independence speeding bullet train. Excellent mentors, those democratic Americans."

- It is clear that your analysis in November was wrong - just as it is today!

Hi M.Miller i was also there for the 2004 riots actually was there since 99. The reason why some many albanians were killed during that period time because there were the majority on the streets fighting with KFOR and burning homes and churches. Dear sir, i think you should make sure you get information correct. burning other peoples property whoever the owners are is wrong. So Mike, make sure you have your facts straight sir how many mosques were burned in Kosovo? How many churches which was on CNN? Like i said sir you are always preaching. about the 70% were killed because they were out in the streets for what for a bogus story and people lost there lives. People dying no matter who is it is is unfortunate. If i am not mistaken i lived there longer and visited both Serb and Albanian. Sir, make sure you facts are straight when it comes to Kosovo and not what you hear. Guarding the gates did not put you downtown during the riots or out in the streets we were locked down remember?

Then, certainly, you believe that Croatia FORFEITED all of their rights in the Krajina region because of the genocide that they committed during WWII including the Albanian Skanderbeg Nazi division in Kosovo and their TERRIBLE crimes.
One does get tired of reading this stuff when the comments lack objectivity again and again.

JHam,
The majority of the demonstrators were taking part peacefully.
