Jovanović “threatened by state”

His statement came in reaction to Serbian police (MUP) Director Milorad Veljović’s offer to have police officers provide security for Jovanović.

The leader of the Liberal-Democrats, a party which emerged as an offshoot of the Democratic Party (DS) in the wake of the Đinđić assassination, added he would not agree to what he dubbed the pressure to have the police protect him, while they were at the same time “unwilling to disclose who it was that threatened him.”

The Belgrade media are reporting today that Veljović demanded a meeting with Jovanović last week, since the MUP believes his security is compromised.
