Radicals: Quit UN if Kosovo gains independence
Speaking after meeting with a delegation from Russian Duma, Nikolić said Serbia "must quit its UN membership" if the Security Council accepts the Ahtisaari plan.Fearing that the extremists could return to power in Serbia because of the possibility of Kosovo's secession, EU officials have hinted that they would consider offering Serbia a shortcut to EU membership if it reconsiders its staunch opposition to Kosovo's independence, the agency says.
Nikolić was also quoted as saying his party hoped Russia would veto the Kosovo status plan at the UN Security Council.
"If Russia does not do it, we will fight (for Kosovo) ourselves," Nikolić said.
The Associated Press reports that “the Radicals have repeatedly said they would urge Serbia's military intervention in Kosovo if the majority ethnic Albanian-populated province becomes independent.”
Nikolić, whose party emerged the strongest after last month's elections, said the Radicals hoped to form the country's new government "so we can defend Kosovo."
