Billion euros for Bosnian coast

“Our project is one of the largest ongoing tourist projects in Europe in terms of the space it covers and the total value. The project will spread over 170 hectares and involve the construction of sports grounds, squares and other tourist sites which Neum lacks”, Švrakić said.

The construction of the tourist centre, valued at one billion euros, should last ten to twelve years. “Initial work should begin in October this year, as we have planned”, Švrakić said.

The project includes the restoration of the five kilometer-long beach and the erection of five large hotels, twenty residential buildings, five bungalow settlements and 400 luxury mansions.

Even though the majority of Neum’s residents hailed the project, some people believe that the construction will be detrimental to the local community.

The residents voice concern that the style of the new buildings will deviate from the traditional Mediterranean style of the region. “Neum has no distinctive architecture, and the construction style of the upcoming project will surely fit in”, Švrakić concluded.
