Novi Sad man's DNA no match in murder case

The Serbian police in Novi Sad on Thursday detained several persons on suspicion of involvement in the murder of a Mexican tourist in Split, Croatia.

NOVI SAD The Serbian police in Novi Sad on Thursday detained several persons on suspicion of involvement in the murder of a Mexican tourist in Split, Croatia. One of them has been identified as Dejan G. Novi Sad man's DNA no match in murder case However, according to reports this Friday, the DNA analysis showed that he was not the killer. Serbian Police Director Milorad Veljovic told reporters that Croatian and Serbian investigators were cooperating on the case, but that based on material evidence - including DNA samples - as well as on statements, none of the persons detained in Novi Sad were connected to the murder. Dejan G. owns a car wash business in Novi Sad - and is known to be a fan of Italian football club AC Milan. According to reports in the Croatian media, the woman's killer likely wore a Milan jersey. A similar shirt was recovered near the murder scene. The Split-based daily Slobodna Dalmacija earlier quoted "its own findings and witness accounts" to report that "a man was seen close to the location where the Mexican woman disappeared immediately before she was killed, wearing such a jersey, that had the word 'REKSI' printed on the back". The newspaper added that the man was driving "a Skoda Octavia with Novi Sad license plates". The 31-year-old victim, identified as Selena Graciano Macedo, was found brutally murdered on August 25. However, according to reports this Friday, the DNA analysis showed that he was not the killer.

Serbian Police Director Milorad Veljović told reporters that Croatian and Serbian investigators were cooperating on the case, but that based on material evidence - including DNA samples - as well as on statements, none of the persons detained in Novi Sad were connected to the murder.
