Milošević’s attorney to defend Mladić

Aleksander Mezyaev, who was on Slobodan Milosevic and Vojislav Seselj's defense teams, will be Ratko Mladic's defense counsel, daily Blic has learned. According to the daily, Mezyaev has been interested in leading the defense team ever since Mladic was arrested in the village of Lazarevo. Milosevic’s attorney to defend Mladic Mezyaev is an international law professor at the Moscow State University and he is believed to be well-versed in the Hague Tribunal's work. Aside from being in Milosevic's defense team, Mezyaev was also Seselj's legal adviser. The fee which he will get is not negligible either. He will get EUR 90 per hour while his assistants will get around EUR 80. Mladic's family attorney Milos Saljic, who has announced that he will not be joining the defense team in The Hague, said that the Hague Tribunal would pay for a part of the defense costs and that they will request from the state of Serbia to pay for the rest. However, the Serbian government has stated that it will not pay for Mladic's defense because he did not voluntarily turn himself in.
