Runaway drug lord Darko Saric was in charge of logistics and organization in drug trafficking operations behind which was the Russian mafia. “That’s why the Italian mafia tolerated their actions in their country’s territory,” International Narcotic Enforcement Officers Association (INEOA) Board of Directors member Marko Nicovic told Montenegrin daily Vijesti. “Russian mafia behind Saric” According to him, smuggling of cocaine from South America to Italy was organized by Saric and agreed by South American drug cartels, Russian and Italian mafia. Nicovic claims that it is impossible that three most powerful mafias in Italy, La Cosa Nostra, Ndrangheta and Sacra Corona Unita, would allow some foreigners to do business worth millions or billions of euros in their territory unless there is some global system behind them. “There are deals between South American cartels and the Russian mafia on one side and the Italian mafia on the other to allow this group to do this business and they get their share based on the agreement between mafia heads. That’s the reason why they let Saric do business in their territory,” he stressed and added that an example of good cooperation between the Russian mafia and South American cartels was the sale of five submarines which had been used to smuggle cocaine and that only one of them had been caught so far. According to Nicovic, Saric was the second in the pyramid of crime. “Saric’s group was dealing with organization and logistics but under supervision and tolerance of the Italian mafia. You can see that not a single member of the Italian mafia went against some of Saric’s men,” he was quoted as saying. “Cocaine and heroin routes that go from South America and Afghanistan intertwine in the Balkans and partner relations between Balkan gangs have been disrupted by the Albanian mafia,” Nicovic stressed. According to Nicović, Šarić was the second in the pyramid of crime.
