Serbian police (MUP) traffic policeman Branko Simic passed away in Belgrade on Sunday, it was announced. Simic was in a coma for the past two months. In July, a drunk driver hit the policeman while he was on duty. Policeman succumbs to injuries The driver was arrested immediately after the incident. His blood alcohol was at 2.2, while the legal limit in Serbia is at 0.5 permilles. Interior Minister Ivica Dacic sent his condolences to Simic's family, saying that the great tragedy demonstrates "how dangerous it is to be a policeman". Dacic also pledged that the ministry will provide assistance to the family, and called on the state to sanction attacks on officers "with utmost severity". MUP said in a statement that Simic will be laid to rest on Tuesday in Sabac.
