An on-duty MUP traffic police officer was seriously hurt on Sunday evening in the town of Obrenovac, near Belgrade. The officer, identified as Branko Simic, 41, is in a coma after a drunk driver hit him with his car. DUI driver seriously injures policeman The driver, currently in police custody, had 2.2 permilles of blood alcohol at the time of the accident. The legal limit in Serbia is 0.5 permilles. Interior Minister Ivica Dacic visited Simic in Belgrade's Emergency Center, where doctors are fighting to save his life. They said that the brain injuries suffered by the policeman constitute the "worst combination", and that they are "not optimistic" about his recovery. Meanwhile, MUP announced that 162 traffic accidents happened in Serbia in the past 24 hours, where five people died, while 90 were injured.
