The property owned by Milorad Ulemek, a.k.a. Legija, has been placed under a temporary forfeiture measure, Blic daily writes. The former French legionnaire and commander of the State Security (DB) Special Operations Unit (JSO), is serving several maximum jail terms, including the 40 years handed down by a Belgrade court as he was found guilty of being the chief conspirator in the 2003 murder of Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic. "Djindjic assassin has property blocked" On March 1, a law that regulates forfeiture of assets gained through criminal activity came into effect in Serbia, and now the newspaper writes that Ulemek has been the first to feel the consequences. A source from the top Serbian police (MUP) brass told the daily that Ulemek cannot sell or give away any of the property registered to him, and those persons close to him. All his property under investigation by the Special Organized Crime Prosecution has in effect been blocked. The source reminded that unless Ulemek can prove that his assets were obtained legally, a process would start to permanently confiscate them. According to the newspaper, other members of the Zemun Clan criminal gang will be investigated next under the new law, as will be the property owned by the clan's leaders Dusan Spasojevic and Mile Lukovic. Both were killed in a showdown with MUP special police shortly after the Djindjic assassination in the spring of 2003.
