Ed Pro, a company whose production premises were destroyed in an explosion earlier this week, operated without a proper permit, MUP has confirmed. Three workers were injured in the blast, one seriously. Daily: Blast plant operated illegally Belgrade daily Blic writes on Wednesday that the Criminal Police Directorate is now looking into other permits that this company has, suspecting they were issued without meeting the necessary conditions. The newspaper also quotes "unofficial information" that "some retired generals making up the arms export lobby in Serbia" are involved in Ed Pro's activities. The company is registered with the Serbian Business Registers Agency under 500 production codes, but none of them allow it to produce rocket fuels, explosives or gunpowder. In fact, no privately owned enterprise in Serbia holds such a permit. This is due to the fact that issuing permits for manufacturing and trade of military armaments and equipment is not only a matter for civilian authorities, but also for MUP and the MoD. The production of hail dispersal rockets – one of Ed Pro's activities – is listed as having only civilian usage, and does not require the military's approval, Blic writes. However, any company that manufactures these must have permits issued by MUP, and the Hydrometeorological Service of Serbia (RHMZ).
