President of the Independent Journalist’s Association of Vojvodina says he expects immediate police reaction. His comments come in the wake of news that journalist Ljiljana Stupar had received threats. Journalist seeks police reaction Stupar is an associate correspondent with weekly Zrenjanin, Belgrade daily Blic, and a correspondent for the Beta news agency. She notified the police in Zrenjanin about anonymous telephone threats she had received from an unidentified male. This is not the first time Stupar has received threats. It is suspected that the motive behind them are her articles about privatizations. “Similar things happened last year when I was receiving threats for an entire month. I have notified the police, but there was no reaction," she said, but added that this time the police have the phone number from which the calls were made. Stupar explained that the person threatening her told her that they have a photo of my her daighter, "that they received money for that and that they are arriving from Belgrade". "They also said that in the next couple of days, I will be their problem,” Stupar said. Gruhonjic now says that journalists will never feel safe until the murders of journalists Slavko Curuvija, Dada Vujasinovic, and Milan Pantic are solved, adding that the reporters' safety will be jeopardized until those who have thrown bombs at the apartment of Belgrade weekly Vreme’s Dejan Anastasijevic are caught. Gruhonjic said that he believed that those who were acquainted with the murders "still worked in the police or the secret services", and said that "even if they did not commit the murders, they had at least participated in the preparations". “I don’t believe in that the police are inefficient, but I do believe that there is an attempt and a belief that journalists should be held on a short leash, to prevent them from writing about the so-called forbidden issues,” he said.
