Zdravko Pasic has denied being involved in the murder of a doctor, Dragutin Krusic in Slunj, Croatia in December 1991. “There are a lot of lies there. I don’t deny being there, but I didn’t do those things,” said Pasic after the indictment was read out, according to which he, together with Milan Grubjesic, on the night December 22/23, 1991, led the doctor from Slunj health center, before shooting him dead. Serb denies murder of doctor in Croatia The accused, who at the time was working for the local police force in Slunj, and previously in the Licka Corps of the Serb Krajina Army, said that Grubjesic, whom he did not know, had told him that there were wounded in Cetingrad and to come with him to find a doctor at the health center. “We went there in his (Grubjesic’s) car. He went out and came back a couple of minutes later with a doctor, and we went by car to an inn,” he recalled. Pasic said that Grubjesic had then got out of the car with the doctor and that they had headed for the inn where, as he put it, “everything happened.” “Grubjesic fired his gun at the doctor six or seven times, first in the back, then when the doctor had turned around, he fired another two shots head on,” recalled the witness, adding that when he had asked Grubjesic what had happened, Grubjesic had gestured to him to keep quiet. Pasic was convicted and sentenced to 12 years for this crime in Croatia, as was Grubjesic who is serving a sentence for the crime. “I hadn’t seen Grubjesic before the crime, nor have I seen him since,” insisted the accused, saying that the protected witness in the case had attempted to find him and one other person who had been in the car that day, once rumors of the murder had started to spread round the town. He said that he had not known the doctor very well and that he had been a good man, saying that he had never had anything against him. “My only crime is being caught up in all this, it’s up to you to decide,” added Pasic. The trial continues.
