BELGRADE Aleksandar Vucic has said that "we could now get more money for Telekom Srbija than was offered to the previous government." But Serbia's first deputy prime minister noted that "the problem is the lack of projects in which that money would be invested." Spending potential Telekom sale money seen as "problem" “And what to do with that money? If we use it to ease social tensions, what would we do in a year or two? The problem is that we do not have projects in which we would invest that money. If that money would go to salaries in the public sector, that would be a catastrophe for Serbia. The deficit would go up, and the resource of Telekom would be wasted for nothing,” Vucic said to the Belgrade-based daily Vecernje Novosti. He notes that the previous government wanted to sell the state-run telecommunications company for EUR 1.4 billion, while the highest offer amounted to EUR 1.1 billion. “I think that, despite the fact that in the meantime Telekom was comprehensively destroyed, we can secure a higher price,” Vucic said. According to the Belgrade-based daily Blic, government officials talked with American and Russian investors about Telekom Srbija, while the talks with the state-owned telecommunications company from Abu Dhabi are still in the initial phase, the interest of Telekom Austria, and Deutsche Telekom is also mentioned more and more often. Current estimates show that today it would be possible to get around EUR 2 billion for that company, Blic adds. (file) Blic Tanjug Vecernje novosti
