NOVI SAD The Vojvodina Executive Council has sent a request to the Serbian government to declare Vojvodina a natural disaster area due to drought. This is according to Vojvodina Executive Council President Bojan Pajtic. Vojvodina requests to be declared disaster area “When it comes to the hardships caused by the drought and high temperatures, we have already sent a request to the (republic) government to declare a natural disaster situation, because in that way it would be much easier for us to successfully deal with at least some of the consequences of the disaster, while producers who are insured could collect payments for part of the sustained damage,” said Pajtic at a meeting with representatives of Serbia's Association of Farmers in Novi Sad on Thursday. He said that this was definitely one of the most dramatic years when agricultural production in Vojvodina was concerned, according to the Vojvodina Executive Council website. The evaluation of damage to corn, soybean, sunflower, sugar beet and other crops in Vojvodina's fields should be carried out as soon as possible to enable the Vojvodina government to carry on solving the problems of vulnerable farmers, it is said in the request.
