The National Bank of Serbia (NBS) Executive Board decided on Friday, after revising the latest economic developments, to set its key policy rate to 12 percent. The rate was reduced by 50 basis points. Central bank reduces key interest rate According to a release issued by the central bank, the Executive Board assessed that the highest inflation rate is behind us and that inflation would drop in the time to come. Inflation drop should occur mainly as a result of cost pressures on increase of food prices in case of an unusually good agricultural season, low aggregate demand and implemented monetary policy measures. The NBS Board established that the reference interest rate reduction is necessary so that mid-term inflation could be stabilized at a value around the target figure. Projected target inflation for 2011 totals from three to six per cent. The next sitting at which the NBS Executive Board should adopt a new decision on the reference interest rate is scheduled for July 7, the NBS stated.
