Lower customs duties for EU products

The average customs duty rate for import from the EU countries will be reduced from this year's 8.78 percent to 2.63 percent as of January 1, 2011.

The average customs duty rate for import from the EU countries will be reduced from this year's 8.78 percent to 2.63 percent as of January 1, 2011. Finance Ministry’s Nadica Pantovic explained that this will be done in accordance with the implementation of the Interim Trade Agreement with the EU. Lower customs duties for EU products “Customs duties for the import of passenger cars will be reduced from 7.5 and 8.8 percent to 6.9 percent depending on the category of the vehicle,” Pantovic announced, adding that the law normally envisaged a 12.5 percent customs duties on the import of cars. “Customs duties for the import of 1500-2500 cc diesel engine passenger cars from the EU will be five percent, and for the import of passenger cars with up to 1000 cc petrol engine will be 6.8 percent,” she specified. Pantovic stressed that in 11 months of 2010, the value of the goods imported from the EU reached EUR 6.33bn. "This is a clear indication that the EU is Serbia's major foreign trade partner and that Serbia is a country which imports mainly from the EU," she underscored. “The Interim Trade Agreement has been implemented since January 30, 2009,” Pantovic reiterated.
