Deputy PM Bozidar Djelic says that even though Jat Airways is having problems, Serbians would be “disadvantaged” without a national air carrier. “Just as Telekom Serbia was able to show that it can battle it out with very serious competition in our market, I think that Jat Airways will be able to show that as well,” Djelic said. Deputy PM: Serbia needs Jat Airways Djelic said that EU visas have been abolished and the market has been liberalized, adding that competition will make Jat stronger. Jat Airways CEO Srdjan Radovanovic said that the government does not have to cover the company’s debts. “The government covers Jat’s debts if the strategic partner asks for this, in any other circumstances, that would not be necessary for the further work of the national air company,” Radovanovic said. He added that the company is currently negotiating with Turkish Airlines regarding a possible strategic partnership and added that the negotiations were going well. Jat Airways and DDOR Novi Sad insurer signed an agreement on Tuesday for free health insurance for passengers traveling to countries of the EU.
