The Economy Ministry has formed a Business Council for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs), Minister Mladjan Dinkic said. He said that the voices of businesspeople must be heard. Dinkic said that SMEs employ about a million people in Serbia. “It is easily the most flexible and important sector, in terms of employment and economic development,” Dinkic said, adding that he will focus on solving the problems of these businesses that are within the jurisdiction of his ministry. President of the Association of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises Zarko Milisavljevic said that officials of 80 SMEs see the founding of the council as a chance to preserve their businesses. “We will not freeze wages, we expect to keep our employees and move towards a slight increase in wages, and removing the burden of contributions on wages,” Milisavljevic said. He said that he hopes that SMEs will get out of the situation they are currently in with the help of the ministry and begin to make significant profits.
