The government today discussed the request public power company EPS to increase the price of electricity, and approved a ten percent hike starting March 1. Previously, it was reported that EPS asked for a ten percent rise on average starting January 1, 2010, with the current price of kilowatt hour at about 4.5 eurocents. Govt. approves electricity price hike Assistant Minister of Energy Milutin Prodanovic said that the ministry and Energy Agency of the Republic of Serbia (AERS) had previously approved a ten percent increase starting from New Year, but that Ministry of Economy and Ministry of Trade and Services had not given their consent. After that, EPS stated that possible postponing of the rise in electricity price would reduce the public enterprise’s income by RSD 4bn and jeopardize plans for overhauls and investments in 2010. The last increase of electricity price in Serbia was on August 1, 2008, by 8.9 percent on average, to RSD 4.51 per kilowatt hour.
