The Alliance of Independent Unions of Serbia on Thursday addressed an open letter to President Boris Tadic. It informs him that between 5,000 and 6,000 workers had lost their jobs in water management, metal, agricultural, food and tobacco industries over the past several months. Independent Unions write to Tadic In their open letter, sent also to Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic and Minister of Economy Mlasan Dinkic, the unions state that those workers had been made redundant. The unions demand from the top-ranking government representatives to make public their stand on the situation in which Serbia's workers are in and to take concrete measures against daily lay-offs. Labor representatives also demand from the president of the state, prime minister and the department minister to ask employers to submit their reports detailing reasons for sacking such a large number of workers.

In their open letter, sent also to Prime Minister Mirko Cvetković and Minister of Economy Mlašan Dinkić, the unions state that those workers had been made redundant.

The unions demand from the top-ranking government representatives to make public their stand on the situation in which Serbia's workers are in and to take concrete measures against daily lay-offs.

Labor representatives also demand from the president of the state, prime minister and the department minister to ask employers to submit their reports detailing reasons for sacking such a large number of workers.
