Miners from all nine Resavica coal mines announced on Monday that they were entering a general strike, but have in the meantime decided to cancel it. Chairman of the mines' union Raka Miletic told B92 earlier in the day that the workers would wait for their health insurance to be paid until 11:00 CET, since they were promised that they would be able to check their medical cards in on Monday. While announcing a strike several days ago, Miletic said that the state owed RSD 1.8bn for health insurance to the Resavica miners, adding that the debt has been outstanding since 2004. There are a total of 4,126 people who work in the nine coal mines.

Initially, the miners started their strike, but the state in the meantime paid a part of the sum, which led them to reverse their decision.

While announcing a strike several days ago, Miletić said that the state owed RSD 1.8bn for health insurance to the Resavica miners, adding that the debt has been outstanding since 2004.

There are a total of 4,126 people who work in the nine coal mines.
