Fiat invests "training, know-how, time"

Fiat Serbia head Giovanni de Filippis says that the Italian company's plans "remain unchanged despite the economic crisis". "If we commit to certain activities, then we will fulfill that. Trust us, we have no intention of ruining our credibility," he was quoted as saying by Belgrade daily Politika. Fiat invests "training, know-how, time" Filippis also said that production at the Kragujevac-based Zastava carmaker is now at 100 vehicles per day, and that it would go up depending on market demand. This demand, according to him, is "enormous". "We expected earlier to have 15,000 orders, and after only two months the number of orders reached that figure." The Fiat official said that the company would honor its contractual obligation to employ 2,400 people by 2012. Asked how much Fiat had invested in the joint company, excluding the EUR 2mn spent on a redundancy program, he said that "the greatest investment are the people chosen to train the workers". "The team of 50 people who have been helping with production here for months, and the time we have spent here, and the knowledge we have left behind, is the greatest investment," Filippis was quoted as saying by the newspaper.
