The government will today establish a platform for the upcoming talks with the IMF, scheduled for March 16. Ministers are expected to reach a common position on the quantity of money needed to patch up all the holes in the budget and consolidate the foreign currency reserves, as thus far economic policy makers have had clashing views on how best to approach the matter. Govt. to define IMF talks platform Economy Minister Mladjan Dinkic believes that USD 2bn is insufficient and that at least another USD 500mn is required. Finance Minister Diana Dragutinovic believes that USD 2bn is more than enough. Under the existing rules and facilities, Serbia could receive a maximum of USD 2.1bn from the IMF. The meeting on a development strategy and economic plans for this year is, according to reports, expected to be attended by President Boris Tadic, Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic, National Bank Governor Radovan Jelasic, Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic, as well as Dinkic and Dragutinovic.
