Russian Foreign Minister Segei Lavrov said he is certain Belgrade will ratify the energy agreement with Russia. The strategic energy cooperation deal, singed in Moscow in January by presidents Vladimir Putin and Boris Tadic, and Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica, will be ratified in the Serbian parliament regardless of its future composition, Lavrov insisted. Lavrov confident about energy deal This emerged from the Russian Duma April 2 session notes published today in Moscow by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Lavrov also said that he "fails to see why Russia should link its ratification deadline with that of Serbia". "In question is purely a technical delay, tied to the election campaign," Lavrov stated, expressing belief that the next Serbian parliament, regardless of who holds the majority, will ratify the agreement shortly after it convenes. The Serb Radical Party (SRS) and the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) pushed for immediate ratification recently, but Speaker Oliver Dulic, DS, refused to call the session for procedural reasons, citing the fact the parliament has been dissolved, and can therefore only decide on urgent matters.
