The opening of the Mercator center in Nis is delayed by two weeks, the Slovenan retail giant says. Mercator Group Serbia spokeswoman Sanja Segrt confirmed this today. Opening of Mercator in Nis postponed She told Beta news agency that the opening is postponed because of technical reasons – due to a delay in the realization of works on the building – and added that the Mercator standards "must be completely met". The Mercator center in Nis was scheduled to open on March 6. The center has a surface of around 32,000 sq meters, is worth EUR 25mn and will employ 260 workers in the Mercator hypermarket itself. According to announcements, the hypermarket in Nis will be of the same rank as the one in Ljubljana and will even be "more modern than the Mercator centers in Belgrade, Novi Sad and Cacak". Besides a hypermarket, with a surface of around 4,000 sq meters, the center will also house brand shops. Two weeks ago, the premises, still under construction, came under attack from angry demonstrators, protesting Slovenia's role in the latest Kosovo status crisis. There was no material damage.
