Citizens registering for free shares in droves

Some 460,000 Serbian citizens have registered for free shares within four days according to PTT officials.

Some 460,000 Serbian citizens have registered for free shares within four days according to PTT officials. “On average, there have been 110,000 citizens registering daily, and that trend has continued fairly steadily since January 28. If we continued at this pace, registration would be complete in less than two months,” Goran Ciric of PTT told B92. Citizens registering for free shares in droves He said that 50 percent of citizens that had registered did not have an account and had had to open one, so that the post office had opened 220,000 new accounts in the space of four days. Ciric said that citizens would not be charged for opening accounts as long as they were using them for the free share transaction, and that if they wanted to use the accounts after that period they would have to pay regular bank charges. He said that the post office had installed 100 new phone lines and increased the number of operators to take citizens’ calls, stating that on the first day they had received 35,000 calls, 30,000 on the second day and 17,000 on the third. The PTT official said that most post offices would be working over the weekend as well. Ciric also asked citizens to make sure that all the details on their identification cards, including home addresses, were up to date. The registration process began on January 28. Some four million citizens are expected to register before the summer deadline.
