The municipality of Novi Pazar said Thursday it would lodge a complaint over a local bus company privatization. On November 30, Israeli Kavim Public Transportation Ltd. purchased Novi Pazar’s Sandzaktrans for some EUR 950,000. Novi Pazar authorities reject Israeli investor But BIRN reports that now the local Muslim authorities in the south-west of the country say they will lodge a complaint with the Privatization Agency. Nermin Bejvotic, a representative of the municipality, said that the complaint will be filed "due to sale irregularities.” He told Balkan Insight that “the municipality will also lodge a request for the cancellation of the sale,” without elaborating further. Kavim is a major Israeli transport company. It also owns a bus production facility. The Israeli company already owns majority stakes in Jedinstvo public transport company in the southern city of Vranje and Autoprevoz in the central Serbian town of Cacak. It has announced its intention to bid for a majority stake in Serbia’s bus producer Ikarbus. Novi Pazar municipality was among those taking part in the bidding for Sandzaktrans. Mayor Sulejman Ugljanin has said earlier that the municipality wants to retain control over the company that provides city and regional commuter transport.
