Vučić: I'm very satisfied with the results; We are concerned re: formation of military alliances in the region
President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić attended a briefing on the results of the analysis of the status, operational, and functional capabilities of the Serbian Army for 2025 at the Guard House in Topčider, after which he addressed the public.
"We are analyzing which weapons and equipment we need, and assessing the security environment in the region. I am very satisfied with the results," Vučić said.
He added that defense spending is at a record level, around 2.65 percent of gross domestic product.
"Even slightly more, but not the most direct. Of that large amount, 54.1 percent are investments, 32.5 percent personnel expenses, and the rest are operational costs. Significant investments," he noted.
He emphasized that there is concern over the formation of military alliances in the region.
"It is important that we maintain peace, and we can only do that by deterring any potential attack on our country. We are very concerned about the formation of military alliances in our region against Serbia, and accordingly, we act responsibly and seriously, without provoking anyone, but aiming to deter anyone who would carry out aggression against our country.
Our defensive capabilities have been drastically and dramatically increased and will continue to grow in the coming years. Regarding wartime reserves, they are at a high level of readiness, around 106 percent in some cases, and even 140 percent in others, such as fuel, of which we have 42,500 tons. For clothing and footwear, the readiness level is 106 percent. Food supplies are at 100 percent; we are always prepared to last 60 days without producing a single kilogram of bread, and we have enough food for both active and reserve forces," he said.
On the start of the 75-day military service
He said that last year’s parade was very positively received.
"We evaluated the parade very positively, the professionalism of the members of the Serbian Army last year, and we also discussed the 75-day military service. Soon, within the next month or two, we will make decisions on whether it will start in December or March, and then in September we will begin registration… Whether it starts in December or March depends on our preparations. The rifles and boots are ready, but we also need to equip the medical units, recruitment, and registration centers. We want to be fully prepared to provide these young people with the best conditions during those 2.5 months," he stated.
Just to reiterate, the briefing is led by the Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Army, General Milan Mojsilović, and is attended by Defense Minister Bratislav Gašić, as well as the entire military leadership.
Upon his arrival at Topčider, Vučić was welcomed by the Guard of Honor and received a formal report.
