The office of Milatović announced that the news that the police are searching for Miloš Medenica, despite having been sentenced to a multi-year prison term yesterday and being under house arrest, represents an unprecedented scandal and the collapse of an irresponsible system, right before the public’s eyes.

“The person who was convicted in one of the most serious organized crime and corruption cases in Montenegro has escaped. In this case, there is no coincidence, because those responsible were naive, and therefore there is no excuse. That is why we are not even questioning responsibility here. Responsibility already exists, and it starts at the top of the executive branch. The Prime Minister (Milojko Spajić) is the one who is obliged to ensure that the system functions, not that it collapses when it matters most. If the state lost a convicted organized crime offender on the day of the verdict, then the Prime Minister does not have control over his own government,” Milatović stated clearly.

According to him, it is not enough to now watch people justify themselves while others shift the blame.

“It is also not enough for someone to ‘offer their resignation’ whenever it suits them politically. Citizens are not looking for a show. Citizens want results. That is why the demand is clear: the Prime Minister must immediately dismiss all those responsible for this failure in the chain of accountability, from leadership to the operational level. No delays. No excuses. No politicking,” Milatović stated.

If the Prime Minister does not act, Milatović says, we will know that for him and his government it is normal not to know where a convicted organized crime offender is on the day of sentencing.

“That means only one thing: irresponsibility, naivety, and incompetence in fulfilling the duties he has taken on. While citizens respect the rules, work, and pay their bills, the state cannot be powerless in the face of its own obligations. If on the day of sentencing you do not know where a convicted organized crime offender is, then you are not fighting organized crime – organized crime is controlling the system,” Milatović stated firmly.

According to Milatović, this reflects the weakness of institutions that have been fed for years by party appointments, schemes, and connections – precisely the legacy the DPS left at the foundation of the state.

“This government did not have the knowledge, will, or courage to change that. That is why today we are witnessing what we thought we had overcome: naivety, indifference, and irresponsibility. However, now it will not go without consequences. We demand that it be immediately revealed who was responsible for the supervision measures, who signed off, who controlled, and whether the measures were real or just a performance. Everything must be available to the public,” Milatović said.

Justice without accountability is not justice, Milatović emphasized, adding:

“A state without accountability is not a state. Order in a country is not established by stories or magic wands, but through responsibility and daily work. The Prime Minister must demonstrate this today. Either dismiss those responsible, or take responsibility himself.”
