A mosque being built in Subotica is the first Islamic temple constructed in the past two centuries in Vojvodina. “The work of the Muslim Community in Subotica was restored in 1998, 50 years after it had been abolished,” Community President Fetish Kurdali has said. Mosque built in Subotica “We had 22 members in 1998, but, thanks to the good organization, we have managed to increase the number of our membership, and thus now need a functional mosque in Subotica,” said Kurdali. The construction is being funded mostly by the Islamic Community Meshihat from Novi Pazar, together with other religious communities. Subotica’s Catholic Bishop Ivan Penzesa and local authorities also assisted the project. According to the announcement, even though works on the mosque will not be completed this year, a prayer hall will be made functional by December.
