Regardless of their differences, coalition between the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) and the Democratic Party (DS) is not at risk, daily Blic writes. Representatives of the Party of United Pensioners of Serbia (PUPS), United Serbia (JS) and SPS coalition concluded this at a meeting with DS leader Boris Tadic on Thursday. Daily: SPS, DS can work together According to Blic, the ruling coalition did not manage to reach full consent regarding important laws that should be adopted. The Socialists did not sign a draft law on the election of MPs, which should be discussed by parliament on Monday. The daily’s source says that the SPS and the DS at the meeting discussed whether they were still united regarding “legislative issues”. They concluded that they had some differences but they did not represent an obstacle to their work. “The SPS will vote in favor of the law, even though it did not sign it,” the Blic’s source stressed. The PUPS-JS-SPS coalition told Tadic that their goal was to do as much as possible in the pre-election period and stressed that the DS and the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) were not the only two parties in the political scene and that the SPS would certainly be voted into the Serbian parliament. The daily’s source stressed that the coalition led by the SPS would like the DS to be as strong as possible in order to be able to finish all difficult work which lies ahead. “This practically means that the SPS never doubted which side to take. That’s not a dilemma. Everybody is working for their own party in the pre-election period, but they are on the same path,” the source was quoted as saying. The meeting followed after SPS leader Ivica Dacic recently criticized the DS and the SNS. He said that he had not attended the meetings between Tadic and the SNS and that he did not know what they had discussed. This created an impression in public that the coalition between the SPS and the DS was seriously threatened. The coalition partners who took part in the meeting did not want to comment on details. “I am satisfied with the meeting. The talks were constructive,” JS leader Dragan Markovic Palma said, but refused to answer any other question. Boris Tadic and Ivica Dacic
