Opposition Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) President Cedomir Jovanovic says there is "no place" for his party in the present government. This, Jovanovic said in Belgrade on Tuesday, is due to serious differences which would cause even more instability within the ruling coalition. "No place for LDP in this government" New elections would change nothing, Jovanovic said. Early elections would make sense only if voters understand that a new policy is needed, he added. "The authorities would also have to understand that they cannot do the job that must be done and tell that to the citizens," Jovanovic told B92. LDP is not interested in maintaining the current disfunctional and incapable government, he said. It is even less interested in toppling the government without a clear prior agreement on what must be done afterwards, Jovanovic added. Asked whether LDP would enter the government if the ruling Democratic Party (DS) invited them, Jovanovic stated it would be better if they could work together on tasks that still lie in store for Serbia. Ten years were spent in convincing the people of the importance of Europe, he said. "The next ten years should not be wasted to make the people understand why Europe is important and what Serbia must do before it joins the EU," Jovanovic concluded.
