EULEX chief Yves de Kermabon has said that the component of the mission in charge of the judiciary has had "a successful beginning". According to him, it remains the key factor in helping build an independent and professional judicial system in Kosovo. EULEX chief happy with judicial component Kermabon issued a written statement, pointing out that the EU mission began work on December 9, 2008, and that its prosecutors were involved in 467 criminal cases, working alone or with local colleagues. The cases include corruption, organized crime, terrorism, inter-ethnic crime, smuggling of narcotics or weapons, and murder. EULEX judges have so far carried more than 100 decisions in all stages of court activities, including pre-trial proceedings, Kermabon specified. The EULEX Office of the Missing Persons and Forensics (OMPF), since December 2008, completed 88 field operations, including 45 exhumations, and handed over 61 remains of deceased to families, the EULEX chief specified. The EU mission is resolved to implement the rule of law for the welfare of all citizens of Kosovo, and the component of the judiciary plays the key role in this, the EULEX chief concluded.
