Belgrade to try Bosnian Serb for war crimes

The Serbian War Crimes Prosecution has raised an indictment against Nenad Malic (48) from Becej on charges of war crimes in Stari Majdan, Bosnia, in 1992. According to the prosecution, Malic, a former member of the Republic of Srpska Sixth King’s Brigade, is suspected of the murder of two and attempted murder of one Muslim civilian in the village. Belgrade to try Bosnian Serb for war crimes The indictment states that on December 21, 1992, the suspect led Husein Grbic out of the Fontana cafe in Stari Majdan and stabbed him twice in the right side of the neck, before firing into his ribcage with a pistol. Grbic died of his wounds. Malic then proceeded to fire a bullet into the head of Refik Velic, killing him instantaneously, before placing the victims’ bodies in such a way that they spelled the letter “L“. The accused then turned on one Dzemal Hadzalic, who he called to come out of his home situated opposite the cafe, attempting to kill him by raining blows to his head and body. He told him to lie down, telling him: “You have to be third one to lie down to make the letter 'U'." Hadzalic managed to escape after Malic left him for dead, after smashing his head against the cafe wall. The prosecution has asked the suspect to be remanded in custody, where he been since January 9 of this year. At the request of the Canton Court in Bihac, where Malic was accused of the same crime in absentia in 2002, the Bosnian Justice Ministry referred the case to the Serbian justice authorities, asking them to take up the case, pursuant to the Agreement on International Legal Aid.
