The last meeting of the Pristina negotiating team before the new round of talks in New York was held yesterday. After the meeting, it was announced that Pristina would "not accept anything short of Kosovo independence." Pristina: Nothing but independence All other plans, such as the plan for essential autonomy, partition and confederation, are failed efforts, said Kosovo Prime Minister Agim Ceku, adding that Kosovo’s status could not be built on the remains of "a failed country." “We will not accept any extension of the negotiating process. When there is nothing more to talk about, then the negotiations will end,” Ceku said. The negotiating team discussed its direct meeting with the Belgtrade delegation scheduled for September 28 in New York. The ethnic Albanian team will head to New York with its proposed "agreement for friendship and cooperation with Serbia." Comparing the Pristina plan and the essential autonomy which Belgrade is offering, ORA president Veton Surroi said that Pristina’s proposal was "in the spirit of the 21st century." “Serbia’s proposal comes from the 20th or 19th century and can serve as history, but not as a solution between the people and the state,” Surroi said. The day before the direct talks in New York, the Contact Group member countries’ foreign ministers will hold a meeting, organized by Great Britain and presided over by Foreign Secretary David Miliband. At the meeting, all of the talks thus far mediated over by the international Troika will be discussed, and an agenda for the direct talks in New York will be set.
