"Chocolate wars" flaring up in region

According to regional media, the holiday season gifts were delivered to the Slovenian Foreign Ministry, Prime Minister Miro Cerar and President Borut Pahor.

The Kras-made chocolates were packed inside boxes featuring a map of Croatia, and the inscription, "Greetings from Croatia."

But the map shows Croatia's border with Slovenia drawn across the middle of the Piran Bay - a subject of dispute between the two countries.

Slovenian diplomats have been "less than thrilled" with the gesture - describing it as "an impermissible provocation."

"Considering that the border between the two countries has not yet been determined and is under arbitration, the (Slovenian) Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent the chocolate boxes back to the Croatian embassy, and put them in bags with the words 'I feel Slovenia' printed on them," Croatian website Index is reporting, citing Slovenia's dnevnik.si.

However, said the reports, Slovenia is not considering sending a protest note over the incident, "as it doesn't want to additionally strain relations between the two countries."

Index tweeted a photo of the controversial chocolate box, and said, "One detail about this chocolate has angered the Slovenians. They immediately responded in kind to the 'provocation'..."
