The presidential elections are today taking place in the Bosnian Serb entity, the Republic of Srpska (RS). The extraordinary vote was called after the death of RS President Milan Jelic. RS holds presidential elections 1,122,241 registered voters will take it to 1,958 polling stations that opened at 7 a.m. this morning. Ten candidates have entered the presidential race. The first results will be known before midnight this evening. Ahead of the end of the campaign, President Boris Tadic attended the Banja Luka rally of the ruling Union of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD) and gave his support to their presidential candidate Rajko Kuzmanovic. Tadic said that his Democrats (DS) and SNSD had successful cooperation and that they were "two sisterly parties which had always taken care of the national and economic interests". "Serbia is a guarantor of the Dayton Accords and we will support its changes only if all three sides in Bosnia-Herzegovina agree on them," Tadic said. SNSD leader Milorad Dodik said that the Republic of Srpska currently symbolized both political and economic success, as a result of the policy pursued by that entity's government and parliament.
