Russian Ambassador in Serbia Aleksandr Konuzin says Mirjana Marković is staying in Russia "entirely in line with Russian and international legal acts".

Russian Ambassador in Serbia Aleksandr Konuzin says Mirjana Markovic is staying in Russia "entirely in line with Russian and international legal acts". Markovic is the widow of former Yugoslav and Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic, undergoing trial Serbia in absentia. Original indictment accusing her of illegal mediation has been changed to abuse of office. If found guilty, she could be sentenced to 12 years in prison. He also addressed the issue of the whereabouts of fugitive tycoon Bogoljub Karic, to say that Russia's justice system had no information that he was staying in its territory. Speaking about relations between Serbia and Russia and speculation that official Moscow's stance toward the authorities in Belgrade was negative, the ambassador noted that his country "maintain close ties with the authorities in Serbia, the nature of which is that of partnership". The weekly said that the claim that Russia's position on Serbia was negative came "because some people who are staying in Russia are on Serbian arrest warrants". Commenting on that assertion, Konuzin said such conclusions "only occur to those who are openly malicious", and opposed to further development of relations between the two countries.
