Tomislav Nikolic today accused Boris Tadic of provoking and organizing incidents at a rally in Belgrade last night. The Radicals (SRS) organized the protest attended by some 15,000 people, but a group of about 100 hooligans clashed with police close to the venue, cutting the gathering short. Nikolic slams Tadic over rally violence Today, Nikolic, the deputy SRS leader, told a news conference that the police (MUP) action was commanded by Tadic, Serba's president and leader of the Democrats (DS). The goal of this, Nikolic said, was to "once and for all deal with the SRS" and intimidate all participants in this party's rallies. At the same time, he announced that the Radicals will no longer organize any gatherings. Nikolic accused MUP of carrying out "a criminal raid" when they "attacked protesters and SRS leaders in a synchronized action". For an hour and a half, police officers clashed with about a hundred people in Decanska St., he continued, deliberately pushing them toward the rally, instead of placing a cordon between them, thus preventing the rioters from reaching the protesters in the Republic Square. Nikolic accused Tadic of personally organizing and provoking everything that went wrong last night – described as out of character for SRS rallies – which, according to him, should serve to have the protesters and Radical officials blamed, physically assaulted, and even liquidated. The deputy SRS leader said that Borislav Pelevic, Dusan Maric and Slavisa Kokez were among the injured party officials. He also gave the rally's organization high marks, and described it as the largest so far in Belgrade's central square. Vucic, Nikolic, Kokez, seen during today's news conference (Tanjug)
